Biology of Cervical Remodeling in Term and Preterm Birth

What do we do?

Beginning in early pregnancy, the cervix initiates a remarkable transformation from a closed rigid structure to one at term that can open to allow safe passage of a fetus. We study the molecular events that drive this process in a term pregnancy and how perturbation of these processes contribute to premature birth.  Leveraging single-cell genomics, tissue biomechanics, imaging and mouse models, we aim to answer questions important in ensuring maternal-fetal health.

The Mahendroo Lab @ UT Southwestern is hiring! Come join our team.

We are seeking highly motivated students, postdocs and clinical fellows with an interest in women’s health/reproductive biology who are excited to employ genomic, gene regulation, engineering or cell biology approaches to expand our understanding of cervical remodeling. 

Prospective postdocs – We are seeking new colleagues with diverse training experiences in:

  • Reproductive biology

  • Biomedical engineering

  • Genomics and gene regulation.
